How to have manicures and still maintain healthy nails?
by Hong Xinyi

Q: I love manicures and tend to wear nail polish most of the time. However, my nails are turning yellow. What can I do to make my nails healthier but still enjoy manicures?

A: Unless you have a fungus infection, it is most probably just the pigment from the nail polish that is staining your nails yellow.

One way to lessen the yellowing effect is to apply a base coat before your manicure to create a barrier between your nails and the polish.

Consider going for the French manicure look with non-staining clear polish or simply buff your nails to a high shine.

If you prefer vivid colours, try stick-on nails. Versions nowadays come in a wide variety of colours and often with nail art already pasted on.

Sephora stocks some nice versions that start from $17. British brand Elegant Touch, stocked at selected Watsons stores, also has lovely options that start from $12.50.
