Vicky Zhao denies marrying Singapore businessman

Chinese actress Vicky Zhao Wei has denied that she is marrying a Singaporean businessman, identified as 'Marco' in media reports, according to Lianhe Wanbao.

She was asked at a press conference for her latest movie, Hua Mulan, if she had a partner in mind for marriage, to which she has said yes.

But when asked if her boyfriend was a Singaporean, she was reported to have said: "I love my country so much, I wouldn't marry a Singaporean. But even

if I were to get married, I wouldn't make a public announcement about it."

She has also subsequently denied having a boyfriend, following a very public scrutiny of her relationship status.

Her comments have sparked comments among netizens, who wonder if her statement was directed at other Chinese personalities who have married other

nationalities, insinuating that they were not patriotic.

Some netizens spoke up and said that marrying a foreign national did not mean you were unpatriotic, and that love transcends national boundaries.

Also, there was no need to talk about your patriotism, much less show it by who you marry.

Moreover, it is now more common for individuals to marry outside of their country.
