The men don't get in

TOO bad, lads.

You won't be allowed into Kumar's new ladies-only shows next month.

From today till 30 Sep, the local comic, 39, is spicing up his regular Wednesday night performances at Holland Village's 3 Monkeys Cafe with two one-hour acts reserved just for women.

Kumar told The New Paper: 'Wednesday nights are typically ladies' nights at local nightspots. We wanted to offer something different.

'This September at 3 Monkeys, Wednesday nights will be reserved to empower women.'

Exclusive

These ladies-only acts will not be shown at 3 Monkeys' Orchard Towers outlet where Kumar also performs on Friday and Saturday nights.

Brazen fellas who reckon they can 'muscle' their way in will be shooed away.

Kumar said: 'I doubt men will turn up anyway. They're going to be the minority and I'm sure they don't like such dynamics.'

The homegrown comic acknowledges that the restaurant may make less profit by barring men from the shows.

That's because nightspots usually offer free drinks to women on ladies' nights and purchases by male patrons often make up for the night's revenue.

But losing money is not a big issue, he said.

'Our objective is to make girls feel better about themselves.'

He is expecting between 60 and 80 women to attend this month's gigs at Holland Village.

Kumar says his regular shows at both outlets see a mixed crowd of more than 100 people on the average.

There's no knowing what topics Kumar will touch on because he does not prepare his show until a few days before to 'stay current'.

Still raunchy

One thing's for sure, he's going to talk about men and he's not holding back.

One can also expect his brand of raunchy humour.

He said: 'I don't restrict myself anymore. People already know what I do. If they're not comfortable with my humour, they won't and shouldn't come.'

Arguably Singapore's best-known drag queen, Kumar thinks he may have it easier with a ladies-only crowd because 'women are generally more easily tickled'.

'It's easier to make women laugh, which is a good thing. When I'm dressed as a woman, they take me as one of them and it's easier to poke fun at them.

'They can also relate to me when I'm in drag and joke about men.'

But Kumar has a warning for those attending.

He said cheekily: 'Have a meal before or after the show. I don't want them to choke on their food.'
