How to vamp up stumpy Asian lashes
by Hong Xinyi

Q I have an important date coming up soon and I really want my eyes to look stunning. Is there any mascara that will make my stumpy Asian lashes look long and luscious?

A Mmm, how exciting. For major lengthening, you may want to check out L'Oreal Paris' new Ultra Volume Collagen Mascara, which uses a collagen-enhanced formula that gives loads of va-va-voom volume.

This product also contains hyaluronic acid (to moisturise your precious lashes) and jojoba butter (for smooth application). The mascara brush is designed to ensure minimal clumping.

This lash pampering treat costs $24.90 from all major personal care stores.

Other mascara brands great for Asian lashes include Majolica Majorca's Lash Beautifying Mascara Frame Plus ($25.90, from Watsons) and Bourjois Effect Liner Mascara ($24, from Stardust).

Remember, always give your lashes a lift with an eyelash curler before applying mascara. Drag the mascara brush horizontally from the base of your lashes and work slowly to the tip of your lashes.

Allow the first coat to dry before applying a second coat, otherwise the weight of the wet mascara will likely drag your lashes down and cause the mascara to smudge on your undereye area.

Do not apply mascara to the lower lashes - these tend to be quite sparse for most Asians and applying mascara will create a rather unnatural and unflattering effect.
