Glamour beyond the lens: Stephanie Carrington
by Allyson Klass

Who: With hundreds of TV commercials, magazine covers and billboards under her belt, it’s hard to believe that this 27-year-old American-Korean started modelling just five years ago. The Fly Entertainment artiste’s first foray into TV was as the host of AXN’s lifestyle programme Sony Style. She will be hosting another season of the inter-school quiz National Science Challenge later this year on Channel 5.

Work schedule: Shooting TV commercials are the most gruelling. Every scene needs to be specific, so work days are long, sometimes lasting 15 hours.

Job hazards: I shot a TV commercial that required the hairstylist to glue on hairpieces and trim them accordingly, so that I’d have a layered side-swept fringe. When I removed the hairpieces, I realised that some of my own hair was cut off! I had a mini-mohawk for a while and had to conceal it by flattening it with gel or keeping my hair tied up.

Problems: I have combination skin that’s prone to breakouts. Styling products used during shoots badly dry out my tresses, and it takes ages to brush out. As a result, I have a sensitive scalp, brittle hair and even hair-loss problems.

Survival kit:
•    I like mineral makeup as it is lightweight, great for humid climes, and doesn’t aggravate my sensitive skin or clog pores. I use Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil from Sephora because it fulfills all my criteria.
•    I love NIA 24 Sun Damage Prevention 100% Mineral Sunscreen SPF30 from Sephora. It’s light and mineral-based, so it blocks UV rays and improves skin texture too.
•    When I’m on the go, I remove makeup with Nivea Visage Refreshing Wipes, which I always carry with me. I;m not fussy about the brand of wipes, but I find Nivea suits my skin.
•    To quell raw skin, I use a calming paper mask from Korean brand Meizhuan, which I chanced upon at Guarddian in Centrepoint.
•    For my dry hair, I apply redken Smooth Down Butter Treat and tuck my hair into a shower cap. I get better results when I leave it on for longer than the recommended 15 minutes.

Diet: I take a multivitamin, vitamin C and fish oil for general health. For skin, I mix Meiji collagen powder with orange juice and it before bed. For breakfast, I sprinkle flaxseed meal on my cereal – it’s a great source of fibre, omega 3 and 6.
