Lady of Magic

YOU could say that magic is in illusionist Priscilla Khong’s blood. After all, her father is well-known magician Lawrence Khong.

Since she started performing professionally nine years ago, Ms Khong, 28, has toured countries like Thailand and the United States. She will perform at the Jurong Bird Park this weekend.

my paper finds out what makes her tick.

How do people react when they find out about your occupation?

People are definitely intrigued and always ask how certain illusions are done. In this day and age, most people are more accepting.

What do you think of street magicians like David Blaine and Criss Angel?

They have brought performing magic to a whole new level because they focus on the audience and not just on the magic. I admire them for breaking out of the pack and changing the magic scene.

What can we expect at your show this weekend?

My show is an entertaining family show filled with fun, mystery and danger. As a performer, I hope to bring people on a journey of magic – varying from light-hearted routines to death-defying illusions.

In the finale, I will be attempting a very dangerous illusion, where I will be chained, shackled and placed inside a box.

Hopefully, I’ll live to tell the tale. – VICTORIA BARKER

Magical Wonders With Birds takes place on Saturday at Jurong Bird Park’s Pools Amphitheatre at 7.30pm.

Tickets at $12 (adults) and $6 (kids) are available through www.birdpark.com.sg
