An online petition has been set up by overseas Singaporeans to bring back the old guard of the Association of Women for Action and Research (AWARE), following recent allegations of a coup by its current exco members.
The following is an excerpt of the petition:
"As Singaporeans overseas we are very concerned about the take-over of the Association of Women for Action and Research (AWARE) on 28 March 2009 by a group of people, whose values are opposed to what AWARE stands for.
"Media reports indicate that the newcomers, now on AWARE’s new Executive Committee, are, at best, ignorant of AWARE’s mission and, at worst, ideologically opposed to this.
"Various blog writers have pointed out that this hostile take-over is a warning sign of fundamentalist ambitions that may extend far beyond AWARE.
"It has sacked all the current heads of the AWARE sub-committees, including the summary dismissal of Braema Mathi, Chairperson of AWARE’s CEDAW Committee. (CEDAW is the UN Convention for the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women.) It has refused to disclose specific plans, despite repeated questioning by journalists.
"This was confirmed in the recent letter to AWARE members written by the Immediate Past President, Constance Singam, who noted that 'although the team [the new Ex-Co] had publicly said that they would honour Aware’s founders and build on the good work of past members, their private behaviour suggested otherwise.'"
What a load of tosh! Old guards caught "un-aware" now shouting all kinds of things - so much for being all-inclusive. kena out-manuevered and outplayed!
Guess the "sickos" are actually those who go undercover to extend their agenda. Now exposed, they use the all-to-common tactics - smear the "enemy".
After 20 years, what does "un-AWARE" have to show :confused: - ya ya all those "reforms" and trying to push their other agenda - looks more like an exclusive "old girls" club.
Ahya - this saga is really stupid - nobody cares and it sells great publicity and newspapers. SG will be still be a conservative (and fundamental - too bad )society and after this said and done, whoever takes over "un-AWARE" will go on as before. Who really gives a s***! We just dont care cause .....
They say that AWARE is inclusive... stressed by their founding members. So now they want to bring in men members with full voting rights. Why.. when for the last 20 years they have excluded men even though they say they have always been inclusive?? Why the urgency to include men?
Could it be they want to allow transgender sg Butterfly to become members?
To allow lesbian sisters to call gay brothers to join AWARE as full members
This will pave the way for a full takeover of AWARE by homosexuals under the cover of a respectable women's organization.
Then these homosexuals can go out (sponsored by MOE) to our schools to conduct sex workshops to .....
The fundamental principle of gay and lesbian issues must be morally right.
Otherwise, please retire. :D

does not mean all the literature must include them as normal people..we dont have to criticise them or ostracise these deviants but they should not be portrayed as normal people

dont blame the church...all religions does not condone GAYS OR LESBIANS even though we're told to be tolerant but it does not mean we should encourage this lifestyle

AWARE is a social association that look at interests and representation of women in society. I really hope everyone are well and not move one step and then 2 steps backward, one step forward and then 2 steps backward... which in reality is 2 steps backward.....
As in the case of the daughter, we are informed of death threats soon after. Same pattern. They appear to be victims rather than perpetrators. We also know that the indoctrination began more than 10 years ago, not spur of the moment.
All these smack of some military operation - well planned and coordinated. Can there not be some bigger hidden agenda?
What next? The inquisition? Will I be burnt on the stake for being a heretic?
All these started from one church - one pastor . .....
Her integrity is clearly lacking and I hope DBS will give her the sack for her boorish behaviour, inciting public unrest besides inflicting so much pain and suffering on the veteran exco members.
She and her team are just hooligans in sickening disguise and must be removed immediately at all costs or else AWARE's future will be ruined by these sicko fundamentalists.
