TVB actress hurt in domestic maid attack

Hong Kong - Hong Kong's TVB actress, Sonija Kwok was bitten on her left forearm by her Indonesian maid, after the latter attacked her with a chopper on Monday.

According to website qq.com, she appeared at the TVB studios with her forearm in a bandage to speak to Hong Kong's media on Tuesday, she described the incident as a frightful one. The 34-year-old Kwok recounted how she was woken up by the 24-year-old maid's cries earlier at 9am that day. The maid was sitting on the living room sofa and repeatedly said: "I don't know what happened to me."

She also happened to see an sms on her maid's phone and suspected the outburst had to do with relationship woes. Then the maid tried to make more phone calls but was unsuccesful in getting through.

The maid then suddenly grabbed hold of Kwok and said: "You're so nice, you have to help me!" But the former's tone suddenly changed and she demanded of Kwok: "You make up!", indicating for Kwok to dress up and put on make-up.

Despite Kwok's repeated cries for the maid to calm down, the situation worsened, and the maid ran into the kitchen to grab a chopper and attack her employer.

The actress said she convinced her to hand over the chopper which her mother then hid under a bed. Both mother and daughter decided to call the police.

The Straits Times quoted Kwok as saying:"When I was giving details of where we were and the situation, the maid came and grabbed me. She pulled my hair, bit my arm and refused to let go. My mum came to pull her and the three of us got into a rough-and-tumble."

The scuffle continued for five to 10 minutes before police came and subdued the maid.

Kwok and her maid were taken to hospital. The actress was discharged with a bandaged left arm and reported for work in the afternoon.

She said she would not bring charges against her maid of about 10 months, reported Ming Pao Daily News. But she would terminate the maid's contract and inform the Labour Ministry in Hong Kong of the incident, to prevent other potential employers from facing the same fate, should the maid be allowed to continue to work there.
