'I like everything about her'
by Charlene Chua

His local female fans send him mushy messages that make him blush.

One fan even refers to him as her husband-to-be.

But for local actor Aloysius Pang, there's only one woman - an older actress - that speaks to his heart.

Pang, who was recently nominated for the Star Awards Favourite Male Character award, said he has a huge soft spot for Kym Ng.

Pang, 24, told The New Paper: "Kym has all the qualities that I want in a woman.

"She's adorable, witty and kind. I like everything about her.

"My favourite feature of hers is her eyes. Her eyes can tell a story.

"I try to get dinner with her every now and then to keep in touch."

The pair met and got close after he played her son in Channel 8 drama It Takes Two (2012).

Coincidentally, that role got him nominated for the Favourite Male Character award last year which he eventually lost to Xu Bin.

When asked if he has told Ng how he felt about her, Pang exclaimed: "No! I'm still very shy.

"When we talk, her advice to me when it comes to acting is to always be myself and enjoy what I do."

Ng repaid Pang's compliments by calling him a "really decent, hardworking guy".

Said the actress-host: "Aloysius is talented and extremely sensitive; this makes him very mindful of other people's feelings.

"He keeps a low profile and just works hard, which is rare in this industry.

"For example, if he were to be acting as a swimmer in a drama, he would hire a swimming instructor to train him in his own time."

On his affection for her, she laughed good-naturedly and said: "If he were older and I were single, I would definitely accept him.

"Do you know that I acted as his mum, but he never once called me mum off set or after filming wrapped?

"He always respectfully calls me big sis and that touches me to no end.

"He likes my eyes? I believe him and thank him for the sincere compliment."

Pang is up against Elvin Ng, Romeo Tan, Desmond Tan and Xu Bin for this year's Favourite Male Character award, which is determined by fans' online votes.

Pang, who is nominated for the second year running, was chosen for his role in Channel 8 drama I'm In Charge (2013), in which he plays a young man who has to support his family after his mum slips into a coma.

The Favourite Female Character category sees Rebecca Lim, Zoe Tay, Joanne Peh, Jeanette Aw and Rui En vying for the accolade.

On the adoration from fans, Pang said: "I receive cheesy, mushy stuff on social media, but I choose not to reply.

"If I do, then other fans who don't get a reply will find that unfair.

"I don't have a girlfriend at the moment, because I'm choosing career over relationship as I don't want to be distracted.

"I'm grateful that I have such loving fans."

Life is also sweet for Pang, who scored his first major endorsement deal.

Last year, he was appointed contact lens brand Acuvue's spokesman and said goodbye to his astigmatism woes.

Said Pang: "In the past, the contact lenses that I bought didn't help my astigmatism, which caused blurred vision and headaches for me.

"They also affected me on the film set as they would drop out easily.

"Now I feel much more confident because I can see clearly. Yes, also when I'm talking to girls."
