Taipei 101 to showcase lovebirds' affection this Valentine's Day... for free

TAIPEI, Taiwan - Taipei 101 will offer a free service to let lovebirds express their affection to each other on Taipei 101 this Valentine's Day.

The registration is open to the public at 8 p.m. on Jan. 23 and 24. Up to 101 couples will be selected for this rare opportunity to showcase their love. Names of those selected will be marked in lights on the building of Taipei 101, on the nights of Feb. 14 and 15.

Valentine's Day this year coincides with Lantern Festival, which falls on the 15th day of the first lunar month. Lantern Festival is generally seen as the last day of the Chinese New Year celebration.

The registration is not limited to lovebirds only. Registrants can express their love to parents and other family members as well, said Liu Chia-hao, spokesperson for Taipei 101.

Taipei 101's renowned character lighting service will be terminated on Feb. 16, before the service is provided to the public one last time. The lighting will be presented as "someone loves someone," while the shape of the heart will be used to represent the word "love." Names of each couple will stay lighted for two minutes.
