Sex? They prefer their phones

CHINA - Women in China love their smartphones so much they will abstain from sex for a month rather than give up their devices.

This was part of a report compiled by communications consultants MSL Group in cooperation with Ms Randi Zuckerberg, sister of Facebook's founder Mark Zuckerberg. The report also said that new technology and social media are transforming women's lives, Shanghai Daily reported.

The report was the result of interviews with 3,600 women, between the ages of 18 and 64, in China, Brazil, UK and US.

The respondents spent at least two hours every week on the Internet, the report found, referring to them as "wired women."

The connection between Chinese women and their devices was the strongest - with 45 per cent willing to give up sex for a month to keep their smartphones, compared with the US' 39 per cent, the UK's 38 per cent and Brazil's 28 per cent.

About 44 per cent of Chinese respondents use social media to find love, compared with Brazil's 21 per cent, the UK's 13 per cent and 12 per cent in the US.

More than 90 per cent of the Chinese respondents owned smartphones with Internet access, compared with 70 per cent in the UK. Ownership was even lower in the US and Brazil, at 59 and 57 per cent.
