11.12.13 a day to remember for newly-weds and proud parents

KUALA LUMPUR - It was a special day for 30 couples who tied the knot to mark the date 11.12.13 yesterday.

Some of them had booked the special date since June, Bernama reports.

Kuala Lumpur National Registration Department (NRD) director Norehan Abdullah said at a press conference that six of the couples were from Putrajaya and Selangor.

The department's office in Jalan Duta was congested since 8am with cars carrying brides and grooms, as well as their entourages.

Mechanic S. Navindren, 30, and his bride S. Kasthury, 30, said they chose to register their marriage on Dec 11 this year as the date was unique.

For K. Krisha, 26, the date was not only beautiful, but also easy to remember.

"This special date happens only once in a century, that is why I decided to get married today," he said.

Businessman Chua Kwee Lim, 35, who tied the knot with bank officer Yap Mong Theng, 23, said he chose the day as he wanted the most special event in his life to be held on a special day.

The marriage registration for all the couples was done by senior registration assistant Ramani Iyapillai. Besides the Jalan Duta office, two couples registered their marriage at the NRD office in Wangsa Maju, 11 in Pudu UTC and six in Taman Maluri.

Meanwhile in George Town, the stork was kept busy delivering bundles of joy on this special date.

Sales executive Lim Hoe Kheng was so excited about the arrival of his first-born that he did not even realise the special date - 11.12.13.

The elated 31-year-old, who was cradling his newborn son at Gleneagles Hospital, said he only found out about the date from the doctor who delivered his son.

"The doctor said my son chose a special date to arrive," said the happy father.

Lim said his baby was originally due to be born on Dec 20.

At the same hospital, housewife Liang Swee Ling said she went through two days of labour before delivering her third child.

"I really did not take note of the date because of the pain I was in. I was a bit surprised that she decided to arrive earlier," Liang said, adding that her baby girl was supposed be born on Dec 15.

A total of 21 babies were born in George Town yesterday.
