Van Ness weds in tight security

Taipei/Hong Kong - Pop star Van Ness Wu put his dancing skills to good use by opening his wedding banquet with a dance.

At the five-star The Resort At Pelican Hill in Newport Beach, California, Wu led his Singapore bride Arissa Cheo in a dance last Friday evening, before guests joined in.

The punk rock-themed bash, enlivened by a DJ and live band and held at the oceanside hotel, was apt for the bridal couple who grew up in the United States.

It also took place amid tight security for United States-born Wu, of Taiwanese boyband F4 fame, and jewellery designer Cheo, whose wealthy family is in the palm oil business.

Cars patrolled the area earlier to keep intruders away and guests were stopped from taking photographs.

About 100 family and friends were at the afternoon Christian ceremony conducted outdoors in a domed pavilion and shielded by white curtains.

Apple Daily said singer Elva Hsiao and actor Sammo Hung's son Jimmy, who is a member of Taiwanese band Tension, were the only show-business friends spotted.

The rest of F4 - Jerry Yan, Vic Chou and Ken Chu - skipped it because of work commitments, said Ming Pao Daily News. At the ring exchange and vows ceremony, Cheo shed tears and Wu kissed her.

She wore two gowns, a white and a grey one, reported Apple Daily Taiwan, while Wu was clad in a Tom Ford suit. It was a purple-themed wedding with crystal ware on the tables.

After their parents spoke, they cut a three-tier wedding cake and Hsiao performed a song, I Do (Cherish You).

On Instagram, Cheo, 31, posted pictures of the wedding menu, which advertised herb crusted sea bass and veal as entrees, wedding cake, a playfully worded "decadent dessert display" and cotton candy.

The couple also posted their wedding pictures yesterday on the website.

As keepsakes, guests took home an album of wedding photos of the couple in various poses and shot in the US. Two showed them in Mohawk gear and posing with a horse. In another, Cheo shows off her legs on a motorcycle while a rakish Wu, 35, looks on.

Wu, a Christian, had vowed to abstain from sex till after marriage.

He and Cheo wed at the Singapore marriage registry earlier this month.

They met in 2006 while working on a music video but broke up a year later. They reunited in 2010.

They will hold a wedding reception in January in Singapore.
