This baby won't need anyone to rock him to sleep - his home will be doing that for him.

Local actor Darren Lim and former actress- host Evelyn Tan's newborn son Elliott will return to his boat home, after spending his first month on land when Tan finishes her confinement at her mother's home.

The Lims, who have three other children - daughter Kristen, eight, sons Jairus, six, and Way, four - have been living on a yacht for the past year at ONE°15 Marina Club at the Sentosa Cove marina.

They upgraded from a two-room Beneteau Oceanis 37 yacht to a threeroom Lagoon 400S2 catamaran in September.

"Elliott can sleep to a natural rocking motion," Lim told The New Paper over the phone yesterday.

Tan, 39, gave birth to her fourth child, who weighed 3.43kg, on Sunday.

It was a "smooth, natural delivery", said her proud 40-year-old husband, adding that Tan did not opt for any epidural anaesthesia. She did not do so either for her previous deliveries.

Tan is due to be discharged from Thomson Medical Centre today.

He said: "She didn't scream in pain, just some moaning. I'm so impressed by her. She also looked much better than when she delivered our first child.

"She looked so fresh and energised (after giving birth)."

Lim shared that Kristen was originally disappointed that she didn't get a "mei mei" (younger sister), but the "only princess" is now happy to be the big sister and is already helping out in whatever way she can, for instance, by helping to teach Way.

The Lims have adopted an alternative lifestyle by not only living on a boat but also home-schooling their offspring.

The children, said Lim, are independent and chip in with household chores, since they have no helper.

The new addition to the family, he added, will not change anything as Elliott was a "planned baby".

"Having three was good, but the odd number didn't work out quite well as the two older ones sometimes neglect their younger brother during playtime.

"With Elliott in the picture, Way can now have a younger sibling to play with.

He's also very happy that he's an older brother."

But four is enough - unless God decides to bless them with a fifth, said Lim.

"Age is catching up. Towards the third trimester, Evelyn was feeling tired most of the time," he said.

However, living on a boat kept Tan active, which helped her body get accustomed to the additional weight, though he said that "Elliott got a bit too heavy for her".

"At the end, she had to resort to taking the buggy from the boat to the marina."

Tan, Lim says, has no plans for another child as "she said she has completed her national service".

He said: "We've already exceeded the number of children our Government is asking for. I'm really very proud of her."
