I'm not choosy
by Jennifer Dhanaraj

Singapore - She remains faithful to one agency but unfortunately hasn't found "The One" to be loyal to.

Statuesque Genecia Luo, 29, is clearly not lacking in the looks department.

She was the 2006 Miss Singapore International. Not a single hair is out of place and her make-up is immaculate.

She is well made-up with her false eyelashes complementing her big eyes.

But despite her dating agency, Lunch Actually, setting her up on over 100 dates, she has yet to find a partner.

She frowns and shakes her head as she says: "In fact, none of those 100 dates led to a second date."

"None have even come close to what I look for in a man," she tells The New Paper on Sunday.

Miss Luo first joined the agency in 2008, at the age of 24, after close friend urged her to do so.

"It took her a hundred dates for my friend to find the perfect man, who is now her husband.

"And she said that I had to start sooner rather than later," says Miss Luo.

Still, she hasn't been as lucky as her friend.

But the five-year search hasn't yielded any results.

In a matter-of-fact tone, Miss Luo blames it on her success. "Success is a curse," she repeats throughout the interview.

She runs her own coaching business InQueenz, which provides personal development programmes such as interpersonal skills, and grooming and deportment.

Miss Luo says she can earn up to $500,000 per annum.

While she can talk about her list of achievements, she admits that it is a double-edged sword.

"One of the reasons why these dates never progress to anything more is because most of the men are intimidated by my success." Her confidence and strong opinions, she says, is a turn-off for many men.

She recalls some of her dates where the men would focus on her ability to perform household chores, or ask if she would be a good mother.

"I'm so shocked when they ask those type of questions. They almost make me feel inhuman," she says.

And then there are the "robotic dates" that are an instant turn-off.

"Some would just rattle off a list of questions almost as if they just want to check every box before the date ends," she says.

Topics like her favourite hobbies, family background and her business are often broached.

Miss Luo says: "I find myself just nodding my head and pretending to listen. But I've actually switched off."

This is why she often prefers to have lunch dates. "I can escape faster - tell them I've got another appointment.

"The thing missing on these dates is an easy flow of conversation and chemistry. I don't want to rack my brain thinking of more things to talk about," she says.

But she adamantly insists: "I'm not choosy.

"In fact, I have a very basic set of criteria."

He has to be taller than the 1.79m beauty for a start. "I'll give chance if he's a little shorter than me, but only if I'm wearing heels," she says.

Other than that, her man just has to look pleasant.

She also makes sure that the men that she is set up with are at least five years older.

"They are more stable and mature," she says.

What about income?

"It doesn't matter. After all, I've got my own money."

But she does prefer someone who is in a managerial or directorial position as she wants someone who is "at the same level" as her.

Admitting that five years is a long time to be with an agency, she remains optimistic. "I just want to keep my options open.

"It's just another source to find The One," she says.

Hello...Sorry if I mistook your message but from the above text in red in your earlier post, you said you "she enjoyed talking to me, but we drifted because she was so busy". It conveyed the message that you had wanted to pursue her but she was too busy. No ??

She might have watched the "101-Proposals" drama or movie too many times.

From the Japanese version to China version repeatedly ... :D

101-Proposal ... Phew ... :p

Perhaps this round, Singapore would come up with "1,001 Proposal" from her case. ^_^

It has nothing to do with "I'm Not Choosy", 'Confidence' etc..all rubbish and self-denial excuses. Main reason is her Height, worsen by such personality = recipe for disaster, PERIOD. At a freaking mutant scary 1.79M height for a SG lady is like seeing Ghosts..when in heels is already 1.9M.. even 1.8M men all will run...and will prefer the 1.6-1.7M height.
Else she would already have been taken several times long time ago. I've have a lady friend at also 1.8M but able to get married to a shorter husband at 1.78m simply because she is real deeply humble, sweet and highly attractive to men. Learn from it, stop giving excuses and face reality.
