Choi Jin-ri's beauty secrets
by Gladys Chung

Choi Jinri, 19

The South Korean celebrity might still be in her teens, but she has already chalked up eight years of experience in the entertainment industry. Better known as Sulli, the member of the K-pop girl group f(x), started her career as a child actress in South Korean television dramas. Last year, she played the lead role in the romantic drama series To The Beautiful You alongside K-pop boyband Shinee's Choi Minho.

Ms Choi is also the face of South Korean beauty brand Etude House. Along with four members of Shinee, she was here earlier this week for the brand's Pink Play Party event held at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre.

What is the one product you cannot step out of the house without?

The Etude House Mineral Any Cushion SPF 50+/PA+++ ($32). It is lightweight and offers great coverage. With just a few pats, it covers all my imperfections.

It helps me to save time and makes the application of the rest of my make-up easier too.

What is the one grooming service you cannot do without?

I love manicures - most of the time, I do it myself at home. When possible, I change my nail colours every day. I cannot change my hair colour every day, but I can do so with my nails.

Due to my tight schedule, I seldom visit the salon for facials. So before my public appearances or big events, I put on a hydrating mask at home.

What is your favourite perfume?

I like light, floral and fruity scents. My current favourite is the Etude House MiniMe Perfume Mist which is done in collaboration with Shinee.

There are five different scents in the collection and I rotate using them depending on my mood.

What, in your opinion, is the best beauty invention?

BB cream which was popularised by South Korea. It makes my face look make-up free but covers up my blemishes and dark circles. That is all I use on my days off.

What is the most ridiculous thing you have done in the name of beauty?

I have not done anything more ridiculous than using lash extensions. I love them because they keep my lashes looking full and long.

But they are not good for my natural lashes in the long run so I apply lash serum on them every night.

What is the best beauty tip anyone has given you?

My mum always reminds me that to get clear skin, I have to drink plenty of water and remove all my make-up properly before I sleep.

I also drink collagen-infused water to keep my skin firm and supple.
