New Face 2013: Alina Ang

Alina was a fat kid. She said: "I weighed 80kg when I was 17. I was in my first year at the polytechnic.

"In 2010, I told myself I had to do something. So, I started exercising - jog every morning, swim at least three times a week and carried light weights before I slept.

"I avoided chocolates and deepfried food and within three months, my weight dropped to 54kg."

Standing at 1.71m, she now weighs 52kg.

"I still work out frequently and keep a balanced diet," she said.

The weight loss did wonders for her confidence.

She said: "My confidence level was very low when I was fat.

"I did not interact with many people because of how I looked. I was a follower among my friends.

"I always wanted to be a model and actress when I was younger but did not have the courage to try as I was fat. I was too selfconscious and always worried about what people would say.

"I am more ready now to fulfil my childhood dream."

And if that doesn't work out, Alina has it covered.

"I am on the way to becoming a financial adviser. I hope to help as many people as possible," she said.

"I want to be successful and be a role model."
