Olivia Ong's beauty secrets
by Gladys Chung

Olivia Ong, 27

The home-grown singer, best known for her jazz renditions, is the face of Fancl's Aging Care Line.

The skincare collection was launched last month. Ong was named the face of Fancl in March.

Based in Taipei, her claim to fame was her debut album, A Girl Meets Bossa Nova, which she released when she was 19. More than 10,000 copies were sold in Singapore and Japan, where she had moved to when she was 15.

She has since released another 13 albums. Her latest, Waiting, was launched in May and it is her first full-length Mandarin album. What is the one grooming service you cannot do without?

Once or twice a fortnight, I'll visit a place called Diva Beauty Spa in Taipei for a comprehensive facial massage. The therapist, Carol, does a good job of massaging my face and neck to get rid of toxins, as well as to lift and align my features to keep them symmetrical. The spa is unpretentious, clean, simple and very comfortable.

Which is your favourite perfume?

I like vanilla, sandalwood, as well as fruity and sweet accords that are not too overpowering. My current favourite is Flora by Gucci EDP ($105 for 30ml). I also like YSL's Jazz ($129 for 80ml) because it reminds me of my childhood. My dad would spray it on himself before he left for work and the fragrance would linger in the house.

What is the one product you would not step out of the house without? Fancl's Lip Treatment ($25).

It keeps my dry lips moisturised and soft. Fancl's products are preservative-free.

What, in your opinion, is the best beauty invention?

I have sensitive skin, so I prefer 100 per cent natural, organic or preservative-free skincare. Whatever we put on our skin also gets absorbed into the bloodstream. I wouldn't want to put any harsh chemicals on my face and body.

What is the most ridiculous thing you've done in the name of beauty?

I remember being obsessed with being tanned when I was 15.

I would buy bottles of self-tanning lotion for my face and body.

What is the best beauty tip anyone has given you?

I did some research online and found out that drinking a tall glass of warm water with a few drops of lemon juice can help detox one's body. It helps me feel energised every morning.
