There's always time for charity events
by Lisa Oon

Actress Zoe Tay has participated in a number of television charity shows over the years.

The 45-year-old is training for the inaugural Singapore Children's Society (SCS) Charity Show, which will be aired on Sunday.

What is your role in this show?

I will be part of a group providing background music for the show.

I had to learn to use handbells. It looks easy, but is actually quite tough. I needed a lot of guidance.

Why did you decide to participate in this show?

Children are a very special and important part of life. As a mother, I know this very well.

They need a lot of love, care and concern. They represent innocence and purity.

If there is something we can do to improve their lives, then why not?

How do you find the time to take part in charity events?

You can always find the time. All you have to do is prioritise and put some things aside for a while.

Taking part in charity events is a way to do something meaningful. It is a chance for me to help others who are less fortunate.

How do you feel about artists having to do dangerous stunts in the name of charity?

I usually don't think too much about it.

The management and stunt instructors respect our decisions, and will not force us.

What is the charity closest to your heart?

I won't say that I have any.

The way I see it, as long as I can help people, I will do it.

It can be for the young or the old, it does not matter. If (the organiser) approaches me, and I find that it is within my means to help, then I will.

However, I will make sure that the charity is transparent in the way it handles money. The money has to really benefit the people it is meant to help.
