Recession? That's no reason not to get hitched

We still got married because:

SHE: 'Our wedding was planned before the recession. Getting married is an emotional thing and, to me, it will not be affected by the economic environment.'

HE: 'It's a once-in-a-lifetime event. We won't scrimp on our honeymoon. We're going to ltaly. Luckily for us, the financial crisis means the euro is cheaper.'

Wedding ceremony: December 2009

We're still getting married because:

SHE: 'It was planned before the recession. We have also applied for and got a flat and we need to get married within six months.'

HE: 'But we'll be cutting back on expenses. She is choosing to rent a wedding dress that costs $300 instead of $1,000.'

We're still getting married because:

SHE: 'We have planned and saved for our wedding, which we feel is very important. We can save by cutting down on less important things like movie dates.'

'We just have to scale down our plans. Her dream is to go to an 'ang moh' country for her honeymoon. Instead of London, I will take her to Australia.'

SHE: 'It's about being with the one you love. We know it requires money and we have enough savings.'

Started dating: Four years ago

Wedding ceremony: This month

We're still getting married because:

SHE: 'We have been dating for so long, it was time for us to take it to the next stage.'

HE: 'We will just have a simple ceremony with family and friends in a function room in a restaurant.'

6 Product executive Jason Ong, 29, and sales executive Joyce Ling, 29

Started dating: About five years ago

Wedding ceremony: November 2009

We're still getting married because:

SHE: 'We registered our marriage last September and will hold our wedding dinner in November. Everything was planned before the recession.'

HE: 'We will not commit ourselves to stuff we can't afford but I will still spend and make my wedding a memorable one. We may go for our honeymoon next January when fares are cheaper. We will be more stringent with our guest list.'
