Shu Qi shares her beauty secrets
by Gladys Chung

Taiwanese actress Shu Qi, 36, is back as the face of the best-selling perfume FlowerByKenzo. She previously fronted the floral and powdery scent from 2007 to 2009.

Watch the minute-long advertisement by Kenzo Parfums' creative director, Mr Patrick Guedj, on the brand's website (www.kenzoparfums.com/SG/flowerbykenzo.php).

Here, she shares her beauty secrets.

PERFUMES

They determine one's mood and bring back memories. I've made decisions based on scents. When I was in my early 20s, I dated a man because I liked the way he smelled. The relationship did not last long though.

I think the scent of a man is important; it may not necessarily be his perfume, it could be his natural odour or a feeling it gives me.

And when a man gives a woman perfume, he is, in a way, telling her what he thinks of her.

BEAUTY SECRETS

My mother gave me good skin. Actually, she has better skin than I. She also taught me the importance of putting time and effort into taking care of my skin and paying attention to what I eat.

I believe that eating nuts and sesame seeds help to keep my hair strong and healthy; and that pig trotters and chicken feet stimulate the production of collagen. I also drink a lot of water to keep my skin hydrated.

BEAUTY ROUTINE

I have 50 face creams and 12 appliances, so it is not always the same routine. But it is long. I spend 21/2hours prepping my skin before I leave the house and before I go to bed every night. I usually start with a cleanser, toner and then a mask, based on my skin's needs at the time, such as hydration or nourishment. Then I use a pore astringent mask that helps the foundation stay in place and gives my skin an even tone. This is followed by a serum and a cream, again chosen based on what my skin needs. Then I use a sunscreen before putting on my make-up.

BEAUTY MUST-HAVES

I'm addicted to lip balm. I use it to hydrate my lips, dry hands and the dehydrated areas on my face. I also use it as an eye cream around my eyes.

Red lipstick reminds me of my mother; she loves it. She never leaves home without that last touch of make-up on her face.
