In a statement posted on her website on Monday, pop star Janet Jackson said she married Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana last year.

"Last year we were married in a quiet, private, and beautiful ceremony," wrote the 46-year-old American singer.

"The rumours regarding an extravagant wedding are simply not true."

This quashed rumours that started circulating last December about Al Mana planning a lavish wedding this year, and that he would fly Jackson's family to Qatar aboard private jets.

This is Jackson's third marriage.
