Businesses offer goodies to encourage more spending

At least one retailer is offering more value to shoppers as the economic downturn stretches on and people are holding on to what money they have after the festive season.

Local department store Robinson's launches its own Stimulus Plan today, which helps to provide shoppers with more value in their buys. One of the more significant measures is the store will absorb the full GST amount for two weeks from today to February 15, 2009.

The Robinsons Group general manager, Group Marketing Services, Ms Donna Chua said these measures help to provide shoppers "with very tangible benefits that will help them stretch their dollar."

Hotels are also doing what they can do boost visits to their F&B and recreation facilities. At the Fullerton Heritage Precinct, which includes The Fullerton Hotel, One Fullerton, Clifford Pier, The Fullerton Waterboat House and Merlion Park, now offers free parking to patrons who spend a minimum of $50 on weekdays after 6pm and throughout Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Mrs Florence So, director of The Fullerton Heritage said: "This is one of the many initiatives that we are implementing to enhance our attractiveness as a key dining, entertainment and retail destination by the Marina Bay."

Other benefits include free home delivery, free parking for the first hour at both stores located in Raffles City and Centrepoint, which are extended until the end of February.

Elsewhere, there are one-for-one deals. NTUC Club is offering its members fun activities at affordable prices. At Costa Sands resort, members are entitled to one free night's stay when they book one night. while admissions to play areas at Downtown East, such as Escape Theme Park, Wild Wild Wet and eXplorerkid are also one-for-one.
