A beauty store and more

Watsons is a favourite among shoppers here.

Voted as Singapore's No. 1 health and beauty retailer, according to market-research firm Nielsen, Watsons continues to meet customers' every whim and fancy.

"Watsons is the shaper of the beauty movement, innovating new concepts and bringing a variety of international brands closer to home," said Ms Cathy Yeap, managing director of Watsons Personal Care Stores.

Owned by Hong Kong-based Hutchison Whampoa and run by A. S. Watsons Group, the brand has 108 stores here, with 32 pharmacy counters. A. S. Watsons Group has over 8,900 stores in 34 markets worldwide.

my paper was invited to Watsons' first beauty party, Watsons Beauty Day Out, on Sept 13, where numerous brands were showcased. Here are our favourite six.

 

MA CHERIE

Perfect Shower Wave ($17.90)

Ma Cherie, or My Sweetheart in French, is a haircare line that promises lustrous and silky hair - with a romantic fragrance.

Created by Shiseido and launched in Japan, Ma Cherie's haircare products include Perfect Shower Wave, a spray that shapes, controls and defines curly locks. It will be available exclusively at selected Watsons stores from the end of next month.

There's also Ma Cherie's Perfect Shower Smooth ($17.90) and Perfect Shower Moist ($17.90).

 

MARC ANTHONY

2nd Day Clear Dry Shampoo ($24.90)

The 2nd Day Clear Dry Shampoo is the latest product in renowned celebrity-hairstylist Marc Anthony's line of premium haircare products.

It will be available at selected Watsons stores from Nov 1.

Developed with nanotechnology and Zeolite to absorb oil at the molecular level, this shampoo - recently awarded the Best of the Best 2012 Beauty Award in Taiwan - traps dirt and dust, leaving hair smooth, clean, shiny and healthy.

 

CLIO

Waterproof Turnliner Twisturn ($22.90)

The latest eyeliner by South Korean top eyeliner brand Clio is the Waterproof Turnliner Twisturn.

It's easy to use, thanks to the auto-turn function that provides just the right amount of eyeliner for long-lasting, smudge-resistant coverage.

It even contains pearl powder, creating a 3-D shimmer effect that adds sparkle to eyes. It will be available at selected Watsons stores from Oct 11.

 

DOLLY WINK

No. 1 Dolly Sweet (two pairs, $24.90)

For women hoping to achieve the gyaru (adult-cute) look - soft skin, pale lips and thick lashes - give Dolly Wink's lashes a go. After all, the brand's creator, Japanese idol Tsubasa Masuwaka, is famous for it.

Handmade by Koji craftsmen - eye make-up specialist manufacturer with 80 years of history - Dolly Wink's lashes are durable (lasting over a month) and can retain their curl better than other falsies.

They will be available at selected Watsons stores from next month.

 

SKINBIOTICS

Reactiv series ($138-$148 per box of 30 capsules - 50 softgels)

Formulated to combat three main skin-ageing problems, the skin supplements provide multi- layer treatment that improves skin on a cellular level.

Containing Algaplex, a marine-algae extract found to possess anti-ageing and cellular- regeneration properties, the supplements aim to restore youthfulness to skin, whether it's dull and uneven-toned skin (Reactiv-01), dry and mature skin (Reactiv-02), or oily and blemished skin (Reactiv-03). It is available at all Watsons stores.

 

SLIMSPA

Mr Slim, SlimSpa Six Pack (60 tablets); Ms Slim, SlimSpa Body Worx (90 capsules) ($139 each)

Offered as tablets and capsules respectively, SlimSpa's slimming products for him and her are made of natural, herbal and organic extracts.

Said to aid in increasing the body's rate of metabolism and energy expenditure, these products help in achieving quicker weight loss. They are available at selected Watsons stores.

Watsons' new mobile app

The health and beauty retailer has launched the Watsons Mobile App V2, an improved version of its first app rolled out last year.

With the new app, you can locate pharmacies, as well as share beauty and health tips, among other things.

Watsons members can also use the app to access GLOW Magazine, get exclusive e-coupons, and play a picturecard game to win bonus points, which can be used to get discounts.
