Some netizens call Malaysian actress Cathryn Lee an opportunist, a showbiz newbie who is ready to kiss and tell in a bid for instant fame.

After all, the 26-year-old became an overnight tabloid star after her fling with Hong Kong actor Ron Ng went public last month. The timing of this leak, which came hot on the heels of another exposé, also appeared fishy to some. Earlier in July, an unnamed woman in Hong Kong went to the press with a recording of her risque phone conversation with Ng, causing much embarrassment to the prolific TVB actor, who was then dating Chinese actress Viann Zhang.

Diehard fans of Ng were quick to lay the blame for their idol's fall from grace on Lee, whom they saw as someone who took advantage of the situation to get ahead in her career. But in a recent interview with RazorTV, Lee maintained that the series of events were not pre-arranged, and she had not wanted her 'friendship' with Ng to go public.

"We're friends," said the sweet-faced actress, who was in town to promote her new film My Dog Dou Dou, "But it's become very awkward now. It's better that we stop contacting each other."

Her rumoured affair with Ng does not bother her much now. What gets to her the most, instead, is allegation that she is not a real graduate.

"I worked very hard for the degree," said Lee, who has a Master's degree in Instrumental Performance from the University of Burmingham, "But people do judge me because of a rumoured affair. They might feel that I'm not worthy of the attention. So in order to prove my ability, I will make my own musical film, I will make time for it."
