Baby steps towards the finish line
by Aida Aisha Johan

D'Marquee in Downtown East was buzzing with baby activities last Sunday.

Hundreds of parents sent their children, from babies to pre-schoolers, for the eXplorerkid's Baby & Junior race on Sunday.

A total of 480 children took part in the annual event, making it the biggest race organised by eXplorerkid. The event is in its eighth year.

The company organises children's events and has an indoor playground at Downtown East.

The highlight of the day was the Fastest Baby Race, which saw parents waving their children's favourite objects to entice them to step towards the finish line.

Enjoying themselves

Among the participants were the Koh brothers, Nigel, four, and Andrei, three.

Said their mother, Madam Lily Ting: "The race...exposes them to a competitive race, while I get to see them enjoying, playing and having fun. The boys loved it."

It was their third time taking part in the event, said Madam Ting.

Those who were not competing in the races could check out art and crafts activity booths and even free golf and bike try-outs.

Said Madam Carolyn Khoo, mother of the Foo sisters, Charlene, four, and Caylene, two: "I think it's quite a good family event and it was very enjoyable for the whole family."

The deputy director of eXplorerkid, Mr Jonathan Wan, said: "The Baby & Junior Race provides the opportunity for families to come together and cheer on the little ones and make it a family day out.

"This is what eXplorerkid is about - nurturing young families and helping to strengthen those familial bonds.

"We are thrilled that 480 young children and those who love them have chosen to be part of this year's race and create their own special moments."
