The closing ceremony of the London Olympic Games was awash with nods to Britain's vibrant worlds of art, music and fashion, heavy on references to the cultural explosion of the 1960s but also celebrating more modern celebrities.
British fashion took centre stage, with nine supermodels strutting along a huge Union Jack catwalk in golden dresses.
The creations, appearing in September's Vogue magazine, were designed by top British designers such as Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood and Jonathan Saunders.
It was clear that the veterans owned the stage. Top models Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell literally, and figuratively, glittered in their Alexander McQueen dresses which had shimmering gold embellishments.
In an interesting mix of music meets fashion, popstar turned fashion designer Victoria Beckham had her label's flare-skirt gown worn by fashion darling Georgia May Jagger, the youngest daughter of British rockstar Mick Jagger.
Also strutting on stage to David Bowie's Fashion were Karen Elson in a Burberry lace bustier dress, Lily Cole in an Erdem lace cocktail dress, Lily Donaldson in a sequined Vivienne Westwood dress, Stella Tennant in a crystal suit by Christoper Kane, Jourdan Dunn in a white and gold Jonanthan Saunders gown, and the only male model David Gandy in a Paul Smith suit.
