Wedding bells for Sly
by Tong Jia Han

Singapore Idol runner- up Sylvester Sim said in 2010 that he was planning for marriage within "the next two years".

He's made good that promise.

Last Saturday, the performer posted photos of his Registry of Marriages (ROM) solemnisation on his Twitter feed.

But the happy occasion has been tinged with sadness. When my paper tried to get hold of Sim, 29, he was elusive at first.

He eventually explained his reticence, texting this reporter to say: "Today busy, because my grandma passed away."

He did add that his ROM ceremony was "simple yet special".

Sim has made a name for himself since his 2004 Idol win by performing at nightspots like St James Power Station's mandopop lounge, Dragonfly, and Orchard Hotel bar and club Tab.

No other details about the ceremony were available. The pictures showed that it was held outdoors, with Sim dressed sharply in a white shirt and camel- coloured suit.

The bride wore a diaphanous knee-length dress, and carried a bouquet of white tulips.

A Straits Times story in 2009 revealed that the singer was dating a full-time St James Power Station dancer.

He had said in a 2010 The New Paper report that the two were aiming to tie the knot this year.

Sim, who stopped performing at Dragonfly in April after his contract ended there, also previously told The New Paper that he had plans to set up a school where he could teach singing and where his girlfriend could teach dance.

Online, he's been getting congratulatory messages from fans via Twitter, as well as from netizens on online forums Still, several netizens, such as one HardwareZone netizen posting under the name EveMuffins, are "heartbroken" that Sim is no longer available.
