Hong Kong TVB stars Myolie Wu and Bosco Wong separately announced this week that they have ended their relationship of at least seven years. This comes months after they publicly admitted that they had been dating. Bosco, 31, first broke news on Wednesday during a radio interview broadcast. He said that they had parted ways peacefully and had split due to irreconcilable differences.
Questioned if there was someone else involved, he denied, saying: "It is between the both of us, there is no third-party involved. It is okay to write about me, I'm used to bad reports, men can handle it." There had been rumours in Hong Kong tabloids that Bosco had dated three women in the last six months while Myolie, 32, was away filming in mainland China. Over the past years, there were also rumours of Bosco being intimate with co-stars.
Myolie confirmed the news the same day during a press conference for her new drama Ghetto Justice II and added that they had split up a few months ago. When asked by reporters if it was due to Bosco's rumoured infidelity, Myolie replied, "I've broken up with him, so I can't speak on his behalf. I can only say that I was not involved with a third party."
Strained relationship
It is unclear who initiated the break up first, with both parties insisting it was a unanimous decision as their relationship had been rocky since last year. However, some Chinese reports say Bosco hinted that it was Myolie who initiated it. He also revealed that they had split before he left for mainland China to film The Woman Above the Bread Tree.
The actor suggested during the radio interview that his personality might have strained their relationship. "It could be my 'intolerable' personality. I would not talk about it if something stresses or upsets me. I don't talk much at home, so there is little communication," he said.
Bosco said that they have tried to patch things up, however they were busy with work and didn't have enough time. "We calmly discussed, there were no arguments," he said. "Fate is heaven's will, I can't do anything about it. I've done what I could already." TVB executive Virginia Lok revealed that she talked to Bosco about the split till 4am, and he wept while saying he would wait for Myolie, according to HK reports.
Reporters at Myolie's press conference mentioned what Virginia had shared. The actress started tearing. She apologised and said: "We are all adults and would like to resolve the matter calmly. [I] don't want to make a big fuss. Today is the promotional event for Ghetto Justice II, I'm sorry." She added that this would be the last time she would talk about the split and asked reporters to give her some space.
Secrecy shrouding the relationship
The pair had been secretly dating after meeting on the set of War of In-Laws which aired in 2005, and only made their relationship public end 2011. The pair also kept mum about their split despite questions about their relationship from reporters.
Bosco had an interview about The Woman Above the Bread Tree last week where he made no mention of the split. He was speaking to Hong Kong media about the drama and compared his reel character to his real life personality, saying Myolie chided him for being a boring boyfriend.
In an interview with The New Paper during a promotional event in Singapore earlier this month, Myolie told reported that she had no plans to marry Bosco yet. The reporter also noted that it was odd how Myolie still clams up at the mention of Bosco. Myolie said then that she didn't want to discuss that aspect of her life, and preferred to talk about work.
In the past week, Bosco and Myolie did not post anything about the split on their Weibo microblog accounts. They shared photos of them and their friends, as well as photos about their respective drama series. Bosco told HK media that he and Myolie are still friends and still send each other text messages. Myolie said that they are back to being friends and would let matters settle first before considering reconciliation.
