Singaporean men hit back at criticisms

What do Singapore women think about local men? Not much, it seems.

In the April issue of Nuyou, local actress Felicia Chin criticised local men for lacking in quality, perhaps because they have been too well taken of.

She also wrote "It's hard to find mature and steady men of the olden days, like my father."

In subsequent interviews in the Chinese papers and The New Paper, she also added that local men "lack substance, are arrogant and money-minded".

But Chin is not the only woman who is complaining about men here.

Some women interviewed by RazorTV say men here can be harsh, ungentlemanly, stingy and gossipy.

But Singaporean men are not taking the criticisms lying down.

In interviews with RazorTV, men on the street hit back at criticisms that they are arrogant, stingy, fake, ungentlemanly, have low EQ and gossip.

Many say they do not believe the women are being fair.

But despite all their flaws, it seems Singaporean men are still great in many women's eyes.

What is perceived to be a negative trait can actually be positive, when viewed from another perspective.

For example, some women interviewed say a man who is arrogant is not such a tunr-off, as it may signal that he has achieved something worth being proud of.

And being money-minded can also be seen in a positive light, if it means being able to take care of his family financially.

Not all women agree that Singapore men are ungentlemanly.

According to one observer, guys around her tend to give in to their girlfriends.

Singaporean men were also praised for being hardworking and nice to the elderly, in addition to being well-groomed and trendy.
