Cecilia Cheung and Li Bing Bing deny discord with rumoured rivals

Hong Kong actress Cecilia Cheung has shot down rumours of animosity between her and co-star Zhang Zhiyi, 33.

The 32-year-old actress was in Cannes to promote the film "Dangerous Liaisons", a Hong Kong remake of the French film.

She clarified to the media that she "likes (Zhang) very much".

"I feel as if we are alike and that we have known each other for a long time," Cheung was quoted as saying, adding that Zhang, 33, is a unique actress.

Another actress who had to clarify rumours of strife was Chinese actress Li Bing Bing, 39.

Li had reportedly told the media: "I think one should dress appropriately instead of going for outrageous and weird look."

Her comment was interpreted as a dig at fellow Chinese actress Fan Bing Bing, who has a penchant for appearing in dramatic and elaborate gowns on the red carpet.

This year, Fan, 30, strode down the red carpet in an intricate ivory embroidered dress by her friend and designer, Christopher Bu.

The "Tang dynasty" dress was complemented by her hair, pinned to look like a style from the era. According to media reports, Fan wanted "something special" for the red carpet.

But Li released a statemen denying that she ever made such a comment. Later, she even used one of Fan's previous quotes to clear the air on Weibo.

"I remember Xiao Fan (a nickname for Fan) has once said: 'It's no big deal once you get used to the feeling of having numerous arrows piercing your heart.' It sums up how helpless one feels towards being dragged into a media storm."

The 12-day Cannes film festival came to a close on Saturday, climaxing with the award of the Palme d'Or to director Michael Haneke's film, "Love" (Amour).

Here are some of the highlights from the Cannes 2012 red carpet.
