Usher in the Dragon year with Dragon jewellery designs

To usher in the year of the Dragon, local jewellers have released collections inspired by the zodiac sign thought to be the most auspicious to the Chinese.

Signifying power, strength, and luck, the Dragon was best known as the earthly symbol of Imperial might. An emblem of the Emperor - the Son of Heaven, the Dragon is said to possess great wisdom and divine power.

It is also believed to symbolise potency and auspicious powers and control the elements of nature, particularly rainfall, hurricanes and floods.

CITIGEMS presents two Dragon pendants as their Chinese New year 2012 collection.

Auspiciously named the Dragon of Fortune, the rose-gold piece marries the iconic Chinese dragon with new-age desires of jewellery.

Artistically entwined to form a regal dragon and fashioned with a luminous red garnet, the Dragon of Fortune design translates the beauty of liquid fire and sophistication.

White gold is elegantly weaved to create the Dragon of Bliss to bring across the delicate fluidity of water in this skilfully crafted pendant.

Bearing the beauty of simplicity, the piece is a poised homage to the significance welcomes a fresh and avant-garde year to come.

Lee Hwa Jewellery and Dick Lee have also collaborated, for the fourth time, to present a collection for the year of the Dragon.

The Dragon Deluxe collection combinines modern design influences with traditional Chinese symbology.

The Dragon Deluxe collection seeks to meld the outline of the oriental dragon into the Chinese character (long) - meaning dragon - encircled by a precise arrangement of brilliant diamonds set in white gold for added 'prosperity'.

The design is fashion-forward and seeks to move away from the tradition norms of how Dragon should be.

The collection is available in the form of a pendant in three permutations - rose gold, white gold and diamond pave - and a ring in rose gold and white gold.

The Dragon jewellery designs are now available at CITIGEMS and Lee Hwa Jewellery outlets island-wide.
