Pokemon brings Christmas cheer to the heartlands

SINGAPORE - Pokemon fans will be pleased to know that the popular Japanese cartoon character will be at City Square Mall to celebrate Christmas with the kids.

This festive season, the shopping centre will be festooned with characters from the Pokemon series such as Pikachu, Turtwig, Chimchar and Piplup to promote a green theme.

Pokemon and his friends will be helping to raise awareness on the importance of using energy sources wisely in a special Eco-Christmas Show.

Another highlight that shoppers can look out for is the eco-friendly Pokemon Christmas tree which sits at the City Green (Park) - the mall's sky garden. As Pokemon will be stationed by the tree, it will be a perfect opportunity to snap a photo with the manga star.

Eco-conscious shoppers will be delighted to know that the 16m Christmas tree has been recycled every year since the mall's first Christmas in 2009, with organisers re-decorating it each year to create fresh looks. To ensure minimal energy usage, low electricity consumption LED lights are also used as decorations.

To further promote eco-awareness, there will be an interactive display of three stationary bicycles fitted with energy-generating dynamos in front of the Christmas tree. Members of the public can pedal on these bicycles to generate kinetic energy which will then be converted into electrical energy, in turn, recharging and lighting up the lights on the tree.
