Aeropostale's collection is preppy cool
by Yeoh Wee Teck

There have been millions of outfits made to typify the sporty American look.

Several houses thrive on the look - Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan and Perry Ellis among them - and that casual, relaxed feel is part of the modern fashion landscape.

Of course these brands represent the high-end, with prices to match.

For the rest of us who need more value for our hard-earned cash, there are many brands out there which offer casual separates that evoke that collegial atmosphere.

So even if you are north of 30, you can - with great imagination and persistence - believe that you're a guy or girl who just got into college.

Aeropostale is the latest of such brands to launch in Singapore.

It is an American brand that started in 1987, and targets teens and young adults.

What you'll get are casual separates in bright colours and logos of faux schools.

On Thursday, the brand showcased its Back To School and Fall collections.

The look is preppy, sporty and perfect for hanging out with friends at the mall or the beach. And, yes, you may actually wear these clothes to school.

There were many hooded jackets, teamed with short skirts.

Knit tops were also prominent, so if your lecture hall is chilly, this might be a good investment. Prices are friendly, not cheap, by my standards.

For women's clothes, tops start from $29.90 and the jackets are at $139.90.

Skirts are $89.90 and jeans are at $129.90.

Menswear is equally friendly.

Tops are from $39.90, bermudas are from $89.90 and jeans are from $129.90.

And until the end of the month, you get $50 off each pair of jeans.

For some, Aeropostale clothes may not be super trendy, but it is basic enough to introduce into your wardrobe without making hefty changes to your existing pieces.

But if you are into this Aeropostale lifestyle, you can get the works. There are bags, sunglasses and fragrances available, too.

Aeropostale stores are at CityLink Mall (#B1-47A) and Ion Orchard (#B3-06A).
