Would Ris Low join Miss S'pore World pageant again?

SO, WILL dethroned beauty queen Ris Low get to take part in this year’s Miss Singapore World pageant?

Last week, she told The New Paper that she was planning to take part in this year’s competition, making it her second attempt at the crown.

Miss Low had won Miss Singapore World 2009 but was asked to step down when her prior credit card fraud conviction came to light.

When contacted, Mr Raymund Ooi of Limelite Productions, the pageant’s new licensee, said that if it were solely up to him, his response to letting Miss Low enter this year’s contest would be “why not?”.

On whether there are Miss World guidelines stating that a dethroned winner can or cannot re-join the contest, Mr Ooi saidhe will have to check in the Miss World compliance handbook that will be sent to himsoon.

Public will decide

Said Mr Ooi, 46: “A big part of my decision would also depend on the public. They must like the contestants, so I may want to let them decide.

“If Singaporeans want Ris Low in this year’s Miss World Singapore pageant, then I’llconsider it.”

Mr Ooi added that the cost of running the pageant, which he estimated was between $200,000 and $500,000 per year, includes paying for things like grooming classes for the contestants, the prize money, the trip tothe Miss World finals and staging the MissWorld Singapore show.

Hiring international and local acts to perform at the show would cost quite a bit, said Mr Ooi, and that would be on top of hiring chaperons to take care of the contestants’ needs.

Industry observers say that the cost of staging the show can run close to a million dollars if it is to be a big affair that is shown on TV.

Sponsorship

Mr Errol Pang, president of Miss Singapore Universe organiser Derrol Stepenny Promotions, told The New Paper that the cost of staging a pageant is actually less than $250,000.

That would cover the cost of renting a location, staging the production, clothing, cosmetics, manpower and publicity, said MrPang, who has organised the Miss Singapore Universe pageant for the last 11years.

But the cost of broadcasting the event on TV would be about $700,000.

As for where the money comes from, pageant organisers have to be creative.

Not all of it will come from sponsors, pointed out Ms Beverly Tan, 29, a socialite and an investor in pageants such as MrsSingapore Southeast Asia.

That’s because sponsorship deals often come in the form of products rather than cash, and this only helps to cover 20 to 30per cent of the cost of production, she explained.

The remaining 70 to 80 per cent has to come from the sales of programme booklets and ticket sales of dinner tables for the event, she added.

“Often, the family and friends of the finalists in the pageant buy tickets to support them,” said Ms Tan.

“We encourage the finalists to help sell tickets, and most of them understand that the organisers need support to hold the event.”

Would she participate again ?
Why not if our politicians who lost in previous GEs can re-stand for election ? Everyone should be given another chance.

As I have mentioned before, those who can utter World Peace to all questions should participate.
But do take care on the articulation .... its WORLD P E A C E
and not WORLD P I S S.

So people like Ris Low with persistent speech problem should be barred from such representation which requires them to speak intelligently .
Singapore has enough airheads in such beauty and brains contest , eliminating them early makes judging a little easier when there are really too many of them in the lineup.

Didn't Singapore and the local media go through so much trouble to get Ris Low out of Miss World 2009 contest? And now what are they and the new organizer thinking off. Putting her back again and make another circus out of her! Please give Singapore a break...If she is out then she is out! Are they really sending a Singapore Queen with such background out again... then Mr Ooi is worse off then the previous license holder. He knows her background and still want to reconsider her. I see another media circus coming up.
