Shanghai Tang is delighted to introduce METAMORPHOSIS, the vibrant new Spring/Summer 2011 collection which transforms the beautiful traditional costumes of the Miao into contemporary luxury collections for women and men.

Each season, Shanghai Tang presents fascinating aspects of China's rich culture on its continuing mission as the global ambassador of contemporary Chinese chic. For Spring/Summer 2011, the focus is on the Miao, one of China's most captivating ethnic minorities.

They live predominantly in the hills around Southern China, and their profound respect for nature is reflected in the motifs, embellishments, and colours of their clothing. The butterfly, for example, is a mythical Miao symbol of metamorphosis and beauty, and is reinterpreted in delightful ways throughout this new collection.

MEN'S COLLECTION

Shanghai Tang's new Men's collection makes subtle references to Miao culture, starting with its predominantly blue and indigo colour palette referencing the natural dyes used by the ethnic minority's costumes, complemented by other bright hues.

The latest Mandarin collar cotton shirts feature embroidered Miao motifs, such as the Miao star, on the cuffs. This season, Shanghai introduces a new higher collar which may be folded or worn up in a Preppy style. As always, stylish men are offered a wide selection of distinctive separates which may be dressed up or down for casual to more formal occasions.

Highlights include varsity knitwear, bright chinos, and classic sports jackets updated with Mandarin collars.

Outerwear for Spring/Summer 2011 also features the reversible Shanghai Tang trench coat, an evolution of the highly popular reversible jackets of past seasons; its Mandarin collar and streamlined minimalist, slim cut make it an ideal, modern alternative to the traditional trench coat.
