Each season, Shanghai Tang presents fascinating aspects of China's rich culture on its continuing mission as the global ambassador of contemporary Chinese chic. For Spring/Summer 2011, the focus is on the Miao, one of China's most captivating ethnic minorities.

They live predominantly in the hills around Southern China, and their profound respect for nature is reflected in the motifs, embellishments, and colours of their clothing. The butterfly, for example, is a mythical Miao symbol of metamorphosis and beauty, and is reinterpreted in delightful ways throughout this new collection.

The Miao's highly ornate and symbolic jewellery adorns gorgeous new accessories for Spring/Summer 2011. Intricate embroidery and silver beading give a unique new look to versatile scarves, clutches, and handbags.

Classic green or black jade bead necklaces, rings and bracelets now come with Miao-inspired silver clasps and silver butterflies. The latest must-have in handbags is Braid Bag and Braid Wallet, featuring braided straps and Shanghai Tang's signature jade bead embellishments.

A timeless figure-eight knot belt is the ideal way to highlight the waist whether worn over a shirt, jacket, or qipao this season. Also new, the distinctive Chinese lattice pattern adds a geometric, modern character to laser-cut leather handbags, belts and shoes.
