Flower power
by Patsy Kam

A new generation of skincare ... Sounds like a tall claim but that's what French luxury brand Chanel promises. In 2006, Chanel came up with Sublimage, a prestigious range said to have taken anti-ageing skincare to new heights. It contains an active ingredient with intensive regenerating action, the Planifolia PFA, created by a specific scientific process of Polyfractioning.

Now, there's Sublimage Essential Revitalizing Concentrate, which Chanel touts to be a catalyst of youth. Xavier Ormancey, director of active ingredient research, explored Ladakh, nestled within the Indian Himalayas, and discovered the golden flower of the Himalayas.

Based on 2,500-year-old Amchi holistic medicine (an ancient traditional medicine practised in the Himalayan regions, with Ayurvedic, Chinese and Buddhist medicine origins) practised by ancient Amchi doctors, the flower is said to have a remarkable concentration of flower esters. This not only increases cellular metabolism but also has excellent revitalising properties.

The fresh flowers are distilled in situ so that none of the precious nectar is lost, and the primary extract is sent back to the Chanel lab in France. Through the unique Polyfractioning process, the Golden Champa PFA is extracted. It takes 960kg of fresh flowers to produce 1kg of Golden Champa PFA.

Contained within the Revitalizing Concentrate, the Golden Champa PFA acts within the skin cells to help continuous reconstruction. It is said to eliminate toxin build up in mature skin, while also boosting cellular activity. Cells are revitalised and metabolism revigorated.

The Golden Champa of the Himalayas is harvested for its excellent properties.

The Sublimage Essential Regenerating Cream formula harbours all the power of the “green treasure” extracted from Vanilla planifolia from Madagascar: Planifolia PFA stimulates the five "life factors" essential for firm, smooth and radiant skin. Together, these two are touted to work wonders in terms of hydration, radiance, skin tone, wrinkles and firmness. Price: RM1,156 ( Concentrate) and RM1,020 (Cream). Available at Chanel counters.

Amchi knowledge is traditionally handed down orally through the generations and this transmission of knowledge has been weakened over the decades, depriving many communities of medical care.

The Chanel team realised the danger of the depletion of the region's natural resources and has helped launch a major project to preserve natural resources and local knowledge. In collaboration with the Ladakh Society for Traditional Medicine, a herbarium has been set up, along with the recording of medicinal plants; and a book on traditional Amchi medicine has been published to help train new Amchi practitioners.

readers' comments
Growing old & grey or white hairs plus other ageing symptoms are unavoidable process of Life. Cosmetic COs, beauty salons, etc. may tout flowers, herbs, treatments & so on as slowing or even preventing ageing. Its a big fat scam bec Life reveal the truth - we're born & grows into child & bloom into teens, youth adulthood, middle-age & growing older despite all the plastic surgeries & concoctions of potions to halt the ageing process. Let's just face it - humans grow old with wrinkles & all. That's Life which taught us to try & accept being old & growing old gracefully instead of struggling to fight what's inevitable. The best hope is reasonably good health as we become older perhaps wiser..
