Babe of the year and Sexiest man makes for explosive marriage

What is it like for GQ's Babe of the Year to be married to People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive?

Yes, we're referring to Scarlett Johansson and husband Ryan Reynolds. She has just been conferred that title in a spread of the magazine's 15th annual Men of the Year issue, while he was recently honoured as the 25th person to be called the "Sexiest Man" by the US based magazine.

Life as an attractive couple seems to be a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs.

After getting married in a top secret wedding ceremony in a Canadian wilderness resort in 2008 that was attended by a select few of their closest friends and relatives, they have mostly stayed out of the prying eyes of the paparazzi.

Two years into their marriage, the 33-year-old Vancouver-born Reynolds and 25-year-old Johansson have bought a home together in rural Louisiana. Online celebrity watchers have also reported how he sprung a birthday surprise for his wife on her 25th birthday with a party at Griffin in NYC’s Meatpacking District.

An observer was quoted in People as saying: "Scarlett and Ryan took a corner booth and seemed very much in love."

Their friends spent the night dancing and left the couple alone for most of the evening. When Jay-Z’s "Empire State of Mind" played, though, Reynolds serenaded his wife as he danced with her.

But there seems to be trouble in paradise too.

In 2009, the couple was seen to be fighting publicly at the San Diego Comic Con Convention, with Fox News saying it was the most recent in a spate of arguments between the pair, which had Johansson threatening to remove her wedding ring. It also caused Reynolds' to be conspicuously absent at the convention later, much to the displeasure of industry executives.

The couple's relationship was again reported to be strained earlier this year because they hardly see each other because of their busy schedules. Johansson is also said to be furious over hubby's remark about his co-star in Green Lantern, Blake Lively, whom he called "flawless" and "perfect".

But the couple seemed out to prove that their marriage is still strong, when they sent out invitations to friends and relatives to attend their marriage-vow renewal ceremony on their second wedding anniversary.

And despite all the rumours about their rocky marriage, Reynolds has told People that marriage is still the 'best part' of his life.
