New ice-cream cocktails on the menu

You know it can only be a good thing when cocktails and ice-cream get mixed together.

Premium ice-cream maker Haagen-Dazs rolled out cocktails that featured its ice-creams and sorbets as key ingredients.

There are five cocktails to savour from, using some of the more popular flavours. Roman Romance, which is a fusion of Raspberry Sorbet, sparkling lemonade, lime juice, strawberry and tequila; Santorini Sunset, a combination of Mango Sorbet, vodka, lime juice and pineapple juice; Manhatten Moment, which mixes Belgian Chocolate ice cream, fresh milk and Bailey's Irish Cream; Venetian Velvet, which is a smooth medley of Belgian Chocolate ice cream, fresh milk and Bailey's Irish Cream; and finally Irish Illusion, a heady mix of Vanilla ice-cream, espresso and Bailey's Irish Cream.

Why we like the cocktails: With two fruity flavours and three rich, chocolatey and/or vanilla ones, what's not to like? Besides ice-cream fans will have yet another way to savour their favourite dessert, while the fashionable set who can't be seen without a glass in their hands while out on the party circuit can sip the cocktails as they wait for their night out to begin.

We tried them all and here's what we have to say about them:

Roman Romance (S$18)- Definitely for the sweet-toothed. While it carries a first hint of sweetness, the slight sourishness that you get from the tang of raspberry and lime juice after you swirl the drink around your mouth makes this a lovely after-dinner drink to wash down all those other flavours with.

Santorini Sunset (S$16) - A very citrus-y drink. Again, with another sorbet flavour, this time mango, vodka, lime and pineapple juice, this cocktail has very tropical notes and makes you think of a sunset by the beach. There should be guitars strumming in the background as you sip on this.

Venetian Velvet (S$16) - We wager this will be a hit with chocolate lovers. A rich blend that is two parts ice-cream - there's Belgian Chocolate and Bailey's Irish Cream - and one part milk, it's quite hard to go wrong with this.

Manhatten Moment (S$16)- Something a little lighter-tasting on the palate than Venetian Velvet, this cocktail is for lingering over. But it is quite generous with the Vanilla ice-cream and milk, so those who are lactose-intolerant may want to take it easy when tasting this.

Irish Illusion (S$11) - We like that we can actually taste the espresso in this. Coupled with the Bailey's Irish Cream, this cocktail can perk you right up.

Haagen-Dazs ice-cream cocktails are available at its Clarke Quay cafe.
