THE other beauty queen who resides in Singapore and will be going up against Mrs Ayesha Lee is none other than Mrs Singapore World 2010, Mrs Kenny Santika Lau.

Mrs Lau - a permanent resident here of 13 years - was taken aback when she found out there was another contestant from Singapore who will be at Mrs World 2010 from a recent Berita Harian article.

She told The New Paper: "For a second, I felt strange that I did not know that there was another queen from Singapore.

"But then I realised she will be representing Korea so that is not a problem at all."

Prior to her marriage to Singaporean Kevin Lau 13 years ago, the svelte beauty was a runway model back in her hometown of Medan, Indonesia.

Left her career

She left her then-blossoming eight-year career to settle down.

The couple don't have any children.

Mrs Lau, who's in her 30s, explained: "At that time, my husband preferred me not to model.

"But knowing that modelling is my passion, he has given me his full support to take part in Mrs Singapore World and now, to compete in Mrs World 2010."

Apart from working out weekly to keep in shape, Mrs Lau helps out at local charity group CityCare.

Like Mrs Lee, Mrs Lau also did not have it easy when she first moved to Singapore.

"For six months, I was lonely. I wanted to go back so badly. I didn't have friends here. But slowly, I got used to the life here, made friends and found a job.

"Now, I consider Singapore my home and I am proud to represent the country," she added.
